What do you do when you have a room that already has all of
the furniture and several other things but you want it to feel up to date with
the trends? The Norris’s had this obstacle
in their Entry, formal Living and Dining Room. So in addition to designing the Master Bath remodel and
designing the Family Room and Kitchen I also completed a minor facelift to
these spaces for them.
The furniture and rugs in the Dining Room and Living Room
were all staying so we really just needed accessories and to update the gold
paint color.
Just by painting the walls Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige
it helps the room feel fresh and more spacious. As for the centerpiece on the dining table, I wanted to keep
it somewhat formal so I chose a crackled glass, oblong vase and smoky crystal
candleholders. The burlap table
runner adds texture and keeps it on trend. The back wall décor was replaced with plates of
varying sizes and shapes. This is
definitely one of my favorite features in the room! Since they are white they add a lot of brightness yet still
keep the vintage feel of the room.
Along with the furniture in the Dining Room, the mirrors and
wall frame that were on the back wall belonged to her grandmother so it was
important we use these in the room.
The area over the bar cart originally felt bare and empty so I decided
to make this a gallery wall. I
hung a combination of new wall frames with some of her original ones. The shadow boxes hold a pair of her
grandmother’s leather gloves and a handkerchief of her grandfathers. What a story this entire room tells!
In the Living Room area she needed more lighting so we added
a marble and iron console table to hold two crystal lamps. Above this table is where we hung the
large, antique mirror that originally hung on the back of the Dining Room
wall. The two gold garden stools tie
in the gold from the mirror and keep it feeling up-to-date. And new pillows with a modern print
finish off the room!
Now for the Entry makeover. It started with a red accent wall, outdated art and quite a
bit of clutter.
They wanted it to flow with the other rooms and needed
storage to keep their belongings hidden.
I used a mirrored storage chest and replaced the art with a decorative
wall mirror to reflect the light and make that room feel larger. The hooks on the wall are a great place
to hang keys and dog leashes. But
let’s talk about the most dramatic change in the Entry…the accent wall! I selected a stencil from Cutting EdgeStencils, which is a great company that makes stencils with numerous patterns
and styles. It is a great way to
make an impact to your room! We
used the Kitchen paint color as the background with a dark gray for the pattern
so it had a lot of contrast and pop!
Isn’t it absolutely AMAZING?!?
What a difference!!
I love to see how much a room can evolve just by adding a few new items
and accessories and making other small changes!
